Thanks for Coming Out

March 22, 2010

Thanks to all the parents and friends who came out to support the Minks this past weekend for our MARFU Match at Widener University.  Although it was a tough loss, 48-6, the guys never quit.  A special shout out to local alumni Fred Fletcher ’69 ’72L for coming out and to David Will ’06 who was sporting the latest in yachting attire and Sperrys on the sideline.

The Spring season continues with a match at University of Richmond on April 3 and an alumni/inters-squad scrimmage on Saturday, May 1 of Alumni Weekend.

Women’s Rugby Recap

March 16, 2010

Here is how things went in Savannah for our ladies as they joined the VMI women’s team.  Players included Jessica Huss ’10, Dalena Moser ’10 and Sasha Doss ’13

” Things went really well for us even though we went 1-2. Our first game was a disaster (34-0) for everyone involved.   Our second game, against Auburn, went INCREDIBLE- we looked like a different team completely. Line-outs were awesome and I don’t think we lost a scrum.  Our backs were one big, cohesive, dominating force. I don’t remember the score though… Our third game we looked good. The ref was rough on us in the beginning, but the forwards stayed packed and our scrums were outstanding, and we should have won- we had two hold-ups in the try zones (one of which was mine…) because we were, without a doubt the better team although their fly-half was faster. For that game, Sasha took back-row player of the match, and I took forward of the match, but I think our entire team looked great.”  submitted by JHuss
