Although the outcome may not be what we drew up on the chalkboard if we had a chalk board, the weekend was a success in bringing the team together, reinforcing team chemistry and remembering Alex. We played tough on the pitch and tougher off. Match 1 aginst Wisconsin fell short for the Minks 0-33. Game 2 saw a much closer battle against the University of Kentucky, but the Minks fell short once again 7-16. Thanks to the Cherry Point NC Marines “The Bastards” and the University of Minnesota-Mankato squad “the Greasers” – which as whole we were the Greasy Mink Bastards. See y’all next year!
Having just returned from the memorial services for Alex Boehling, one can not believe he is really gone. Truly someone taken much too early. The love felt throughout the churches and the Boehling home was amazing and the stories and remembrances all painted Alex as a passionate, strong, caring, loving, fun and thoughtful person who loved all that he did. As I drove back to lexington I could not help thinking that Alex was still such a young boy while at the same time being wiser beyond his years as a young man. If only we could all be that lucky. I can only belive his success as a person and in life stemmed from the amazing family he was part of. Peter and Mary – you done good! Please keep the Boehling family, Peter, Mary, Emily, Liza, Isabelle and Jimmy in your thoughts and prayers.
Perhaps one way to memorialize Alex is to always live ‘your dash’ to the fullest.
Dear W&L Rugby Family,
Alex Boehling ’10, club president last year, passed away yesterday morning. Over his years at W&L, Alex was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, president of the W&L Rugby Club, and vice president of the Interfraternity Council. Most importantly, Alex was a good friend to many of us, a fellow rugger to all of us and an all around great person. He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, strong work ethic, leadership on and off the pitch, and his incredible loyalty to his friends, teammates and the Screaming Minks.
Through the years I have had the privilege of coaching Alex, working with him on behalf of the Club and the good fortune of becoming good friends with him. I will miss him dearly, and my thoughts and prayers, as well as those of the Screaming Minks, go out to his family and all others who knew and loved him.
Please see the information below for the service times. If you wish to write his family with your regrets, please contact me and I will be happy to pass along their address. Also, in place of flowers, the Boehlings ask that you send donations to the Beta Theta Pi Chapter at W&L.
